Dr. Simon Zagorski-Thomas is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Music Technology at the London College of Music, UWL where he is programme leader for the MA in Record Production. He is also a director of the annual Art of Record Production Conference, co-founded the online Journal on the Art of Record Production and is chairman of the Association for the Study of the Art of Record Production (www.artofrecordproduction.com). He has just co-edited, with Professor Simon Frith, a collection of academic chapters and professional commentary on record production for the Ashgate Press and is preparing a monograph on the Musicology of Record Production. Before becoming an academic Simon worked for 25 years as a composer, sound engineer and producer with artists as varied as Phil Collins, Mica Paris, London Community Gospel Choir, Bill Bruford, The Mock Turtles, Courtney Pine and the Balanescu Quartet. He is, at present, conducting research into the musicology of record production, popular music analysis and performance practice in the recording process. His PhD was in Electroacoustic Composition at Goldsmith’s College and he continues to compose and record music.
